Our Services

We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship, specializing in the care of suede, leather and down-filled garments.

Each and every garment and rug is individually inspected by our experts to determine the best method of cleaning for every type of stain. We then hand-treat the item before cleaning, drying, and pressing. Along the way, each item is manually inspected multiple times by our expert quality technicians to ensure that each piece receives the highest quality of care.

FAQ

Unlike today’s dry cleaning process for a shirt, pant, skirt, etc., which is largely automated, speciality cleaning remains a bastion of hand craftsmanship. Every part of the process requires an expert technician or tailor to visually inspect, hand spot, clean, dry, press, dye and finish before it comes back to you. Add to this the fact that most leather, suede, sheepskin and down-filled items can take more than a day to dry and that some items need to go through this process multiple times to eliminate stubborn stains (ground dirt, mold, etc.) or are inherently complex garments to clean, and you get a process that can range from 4-6 days in our plant. It probably also took two days of travel to get the garment from your dry cleaner to our plant and back, making it a 6-8 business day turnaround time. Accordingly, we target a one-week turnaround time for most items. Complex garments that require additional dyeing or tailoring works, or rugs that are delayed with our rug cleaning partners naturally have a longer turnaround time.

Dye bleed occurs when the darker colours of a garment bleed into the lighter colours. This typically happens in garments where the manufacturer has not properly sealed the leather (i.e. has not applied the color to the material properly) or has used a fake dye. While this is a common issue in lower quality garments, this can sometimes be an issue with high-end manufacturers, as well. These issues then compound with the age of the item or the type of use. For example, a new pair of pink suede boots exposed to extreme snow and salt can experience a lot of dye bleed. Not so surprisingly, a much older pair of pink suede boots that have seen relatively light outdoor use will fare much better.

Our expert technicians use their many years of experience to identify these issues well in advance of the cleaning process and use alternate cleaning methods where necessary and feasible. Prior to undertaking any work on a garment that our experts deem too delicate or risky to clean, we make sure the customer is made aware and is comfortable as we proceed. This is why Suede Master is the preferred cleaner of all things leather and suede.

Leathers fade due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. As a result, a leather jacket, for example, will look faded on the exposed side while the underside retains its original color. This problem can be corrected in a black leather jacket, but less so in a multicoloured jacket. This is where our dyeing experts come into play. Not only do they have a strong understanding of the different materials and how they will respond to dyes, they complete the work by hand with a painstaking level of detail to restore the garment to its original condition. Send it over to us and we’ll give you a free assessment of what’s possible.

The down-filled jacket is the embodiment of utility and performance. They have to be to withstand some of the harshest environments mother nature has to offer. Using this very fine foundation for a garment, today’s high-end fashion designers have created pieces that are nothing short of works of art. These garments now use a variety of high-performance materials such as nylon, leather and fur to achieve the intended artistic elegance. In doing so, however, these garments now require a far more complex cleaning process as each material may require a different cleaning process (i.e. dry vs wet vs hand cleaning). As a result, these complex garments have to be carefully handled by a highly skilled tailor to be cleaned before being finished. As art evolves, so does the material used in these down-filled jackets.

Our master tailors and expert technicians are trained to determine the best method of cleaning for every type of material and condition. We then hand-treat the item before cleaning, drying, and pressing. If needed, the item also goes through our hand or spray dyeing process before being finished by our master tailors.

One of the biggest challenges in our industry is the use of fake or inferior quality inputs as part of a high-end garment. While this practice is not typical, it is common amongst counterfeit garment manufacturers and the odd style put out by a high-end design house. At Suede Master, we keep on top of all these design changes by each manufacturer to ensure that your garment receives the best care possible.
