Yes. Bacteria thrive in the warm, moist, enclosed environment of a hockey bag and some of those bacteria are serious. MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and other staph infections are more common among hockey players than many people realize, typically entering through small cuts or skin irritation caused by equipment. Regular professional cleaning significantly reduces the bacterial load in high-contact gear, lowering that risk for players of all ages.
At minimum, every 6 weeks or every 15 to 20 uses, whichever comes first. For players with more frequent ice time, or for younger players whose gear tends to take more moisture, cleaning every 3 to 4 weeks is a better baseline. Soft gear like jerseys, base layers, and socks should be washed after every use. The pads, gloves, and helmet are where the bacterial buildup gets serious and where professional cleaning makes the biggest difference.
Sprays mask odour temporarily but don’t address the source. The smell in hockey equipment isn’t just sweat, it’s bacteria feeding on sweat and producing waste. Until the bacteria are eliminated, the odour will return. Yes. We offer pickup and delivery across Southern Ontario, from London to Ottawa. Pricing starts at $80 for drop-off and $100 for pickup. If you’re outside Southern Ontario, you can ship your gear to us from anywhere in Canada and we’ll return it within 14 days. Rush service is also available for an additional $20 if you need it back sooner.
Yes. We clean a wide range of athletic and specialty equipment, including football pads, martial arts gear, ski and snowboard boots, boxing gloves, soccer shin pads, skates, and tactical or duty gear. The same ozone-based process used for hockey equipment is applied across all gear types, adjusted based on the item’s construction and material.
Home washing has limits. Most pads can’t go through a standard washing machine without retaining moisture deep inside the foam, which actually accelerates bacterial growth rather than stopping it. Pressure washing adds more moisture and can cause mould. The ozone process we use targets the interior of the gear where home methods can’t reach, and the specialty drying system removes moisture in a controlled way that prevents bacteria from re-establishing. For gear that players wear every week, the difference is significant.
